Shawn “Clown” Crahan of Slipknot revealed during an interview that the band plans to release the album Look Outside Your Window , recorded in 2008, this year. This news comes as the group's contract with Roadrunner Records ends on April 1st of this year.
During an interview with Upset Magazine , Clown commented: “The good news is that in six months, on April Fool's Day 2023, we'll be off the label. There are no plans to release anything immediately and we haven't talked about it, but I imagine it will probably come soon after. There's nothing left to do and it's ready to go. The wait will be worth it.”
The material on Look Outside Your Window was originally recorded when the band was working on their 2008 album, All Hope Is Gone . Clown, along with Corey Taylor, Jim Root , and Sid Wilson, experimented a bit between intense recording sessions, producing songs that had a more psychedelic feel. Taylor told Eddie Trunk in 2019 that the material takes on a “ Radiohead .”
Clown continued: “It’s an incredible piece of work. You’ll never hear another Corey Taylor like this. The music and the lyrics… it’s one of the best things I’ve ever done in my life.” The percussionist also shared that the lost album has not yet been released, even after attempts in 2019 and 2020, because the band didn’t want it to be just another album in their career, risking getting lost among their other studio albums.
Recently, Clown told NME that he would love for the band to release singles instead of full albums going forward. "Being free, in that sense, gives us the freedom to explore deeper, more surreal opportunities to hone our craft – it's a win for everyone," he commented in the interview.
In 2022, Slipknot released their latest album, The End, So Far . Currently, the band has a busy touring schedule for 2023, starting with Knotfest Australia and Japan, the first Knotfest Italy , and performances at Download Festival and Hellfest, among others.
